Trips to Helsinki and Lapland.
Finland has progressed leaps and bounds in recent years and veganism has gone mainstream for many reasons making Finland one of the most vegan friendly places on the planet. It has not always been this way and there is a tradition of hunting and heavy eating to get through the freezing winters. This led to some of the worst rates of heart attacks in the world and the Finnish government have stepped in so that the Finnish diet has radically changed. There is also a close link to nature and many of the young generation are becoming vegan for ethical reasons.
Helsinki, now has 6 fully vegan restaurants, and where it excels is the ease of finding vegan options in many other places. Shops are stocking many vegan friendly items. Even in northern regions we had no problem finding a good selection of vegan food in the local shops.
Finland is a sprawling nature paradise.
If you head up to Lapland you will have to drive slowly as you will encounter many herds of reindeer crossing the roads.
